How can I change the format of my audio wma to mp3?

I ripped some CDs a few years ago for my pc and were saved as wma files. I burned them to a disk and they will not play on my mp3 player because they are the wrong format. I do not have the cd's because most have been lost or destroyed by my children. I tried downloading a program from the internet to convert them, but did not work because the files are protected or something. Any advice?

If you already tried programs, then the only thing to do is install itunes. burn the cd (if you have not already done so) the music you need to convert. on iTunes go to the main menu and click Edit, go to Preferences, go to the Advanced tab, and click the Import subtab. You'll be confronted with an import Using the scroll box. Click it and select mp3 encoding. you may want to change the quality as well. Click OK at the bottom. then Insert the disc burning and import. They will be encoded as MP3.
