How do I download podcasts on my MP3 Insignia?

I want to download podcasts on my mp3 player to listen on the road from my travels. I am using windows xp and understand that there is some software I need to download. Yeah, okay, I'm only 57 and not up to speed with some new things, but I can learn. patience, please. and thank you in advance to anyone who offers help.
